Welcome to Music Appreciation.Com. It is taught by Larry
Ferrara, who is serving on the faculty of City College of San Francisco, UC
Berkeley and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is a recording
artist, writer, performer, and classical guitarist. I am happy to present this
web site to you either as a conjunct to the course Music Appreciation 27A, at
City College of San Francisco, or as general music knowledge and appreciation
portal. I hope you enjoy it and gain some insight from it. Below is some
biographical information about me. Thank you for stopping by. Lawrence Ferrara has the distinction of being the first
guitarist to receive a master's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of
Music. His teachers have included Julian Bream, George Sakellariou and
Michael Lorimer. An active teacher himself, Mr. Ferrara heads the guitar
programs at City College of San Francisco and University of California at
Berkeley. He also serves on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of
Music. Lawrence Ferrara has performed as guitar soloist with the San
Francisco Ballet Orchestra, the Bay Chamber Symphony, the Classical
Philharmonic, the Vallejo and Merced Symphonies as well as the San Francisco
Conservatory’s Chamber Orchestra and New Music Ensemble. Among many awards,
Mr. Ferrara was twice prize winner at the Carmel Classic Guitar Competition
and received special recognition at the Toronto Guitar International
Competition. He has also served on the Music Advisory Panel to the National
Endowment of the Arts and has a solo CD titled American Guitar Music on the VGo label. In addition Mr. Ferrara
is the author and performer of a sequence of music books titled The Student Repertoire
Series for Guitar with accompanying CDs, published and
recorded by Guitar Solo of San Francisco. |
