Nocturne

Listen to a Nocturne by Chopin

A “night piece” slow, lyrical and with a tinge of melancholy. Each nocturne is an expression of a different type of night in it’s mood and atmosphere. Nocturne’s are often sensual and sensitive. Chopin’s nocturnes use chromaticism to “blur” the melodic lines, make the texture ambiguous and simulate darkness and shadow. These pieces are filled with rubato and mystery.
